RUPCO's Community Lunch 2024!
New date: October 16, 2024
Here at RUPCO, we're eagerly preparing for our annual Community Lunch event. Join us on October 16, 11:30 am at Novellas - for an engaging afternoon centered on the critical state of affordable housing in New York.
Featuring a Keynote Address by RuthAnne Visnauskas
We are delighted to announce that RuthAnne Visnauskas, Commissioner of NYS Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR), will deliver this year's keynote speech. NYSHCR collaborates with partners to ensure housing affordability and build inclusive, safe, sustainable communities statewide. Through initiatives like the Governor's $1 billion HOUSE NY program, NYSHCR leverages federal and state resources to finance multifamily housing, improve housing quality, ensure accessibility, promote energy efficiency, and support local public projects and job creation. Their dedication extends to funding services for low- and moderate-income households, veterans, seniors, homeless individuals, those with HIV/AIDS, and at-risk youth, fostering community resilience and opportunity throughout New York State.

Greenburger Center for Social and Criminal Justice
Community Partner Award
A nonprofit organization founded in 2014, the Greenburger Center for Social and Criminal Justice advocates for criminal justice and mental health reforms. We believe the criminal justice system should focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment alone, and that our mental health system must do more to prevent those living with mental illness or substance use disorders from entering the criminal justice system in the first place. Laws should protect society, not penalize poverty, mental illness, or substance use disorders and judges must be able to fashion sentences, including alternatives to incarceration, that do justice while preserving human dignity and the potential for successful reentry.
